What causes the water damage?
- Blockage of downspouts or gutters with debris and leaves which directs water toward your home
- Improper grading of land causing water to drain toward your home
- Overflow during sudden storms
- French drain (weeping tile) malfunction.
What you can do
- Be sure rain water sewers are free of leaves and debris.
- Call your municipality to clear the sewer if you foresee problems during a storm.
- Be sure your land is properly graded so that water runs away from your home.
- Be sure that trees and roots are not blocking your sewer/French drain.
- If you have a slanted garage floor, be vigilant about keeping it clear of snow and mud.
