How does Grand Touring Advantage work?
Grand Touring Advantage is an endorsement added to your insurance policy. It offers several advantages:
- If you’re involved in an accident, or your car is vandalized or stolen, you may benefit up to $1,500 coverage for the rental of a replacement vehicle.
- You and anybody insured under your policy are also covered for up to $50,000 for damage to rented or borrowed cars, anywhere in Canada and in the U.S. states.
- Across Canada, except for Quebec policy holders, you get reimbursed for towing and emergency service expenses up to $50 per incident.
- Your deductible may be also waived up to $500 in the event of a total loss or a hit-and-run, as long as it is reported to the police within 24 hours.
For travel far and near
I know that Grand Touring Advantage provides ideal coverage for long distances. Can I get this coverage if I only use my vehicle for short distances?
Grand Touring Advantage is beneficial even if you aren’t travelling. It provides for courtesy cars in case of a covered claim and coverage for rental cars, so you don’t have to purchase the rental company’s insurance.
The coverage for a rental or borrowed car will apply whithin Canada, the United States of America or upon a vessel plying between ports of those countries.
Scope of coverage
With Grand Touring Advantage, are there limits to what is covered in terms of costs, e.g., emergency road service, roadside assistance, temporary replacement of cars, hotel expenses and car rental?
There are limits with the Grand Touring Advantage, these are most of them:
Roadside assistance: Across Canada, except for Quebec policy holders, you may get reimbursed for towing and emergency service expenses up to $50 per incident.
Temporary vehicle replacement: If your car is stolen or in an accident that requires extended repairs, you may have up to $1,500 to rent a similar vehicle.
Rental cars: If you’ve rented an automobile for a business trip, or a mini-van for a family trip, you may receive up to $50,000 of protection for damages to the rented or borrowed vehicle.
Hotel expenses: If you are a Québec policy holder and you have an accident away from home, you may receive up to $750 for hotel expenses and additional travel expenses.
Call any towing or rental company
Say my car breaks down somewhere and I have to have it towed, can I just go ahead and call a towing company? Or should I check with TD Insurance first?
You can deal with any towing company in Canada, except for Quebec policy holders where this coverage is not available. We may reimburse you upon presentation of receipts, bills and acceptable evidence of loss, for towing and emergency service expenses necessitated by the disablement of the vehicle.
Are there specific car rental companies that I have to use with Grand Touring Advantage? Or should I check with TD Insurance first?
You can deal with any rental car company in Canada. Remember, you only have coverage for a car rental with Grand Touring Advantage if your vehicle has been damaged by a covered peril (a risk covered under your insurance policy) or has been stolen. Car breakdown is not an insured risk.

Will my premium cost more with Grand Touring Advantage? And if it does, what’s the advantage of buying it?
The cost of the Grand Touring Advantage will be added to your policy premium However, in the event of an accident, you will be able to rent a car for the duration of the needed repairs (subject to a $1,500 limit). Also, if you borrow or rent a car anywhere in Canada or in the U.S. states, the car may be covered for damages. Furthermore, in case of a total loss or a hit-and-run, your deductible may be waived, as long as it is reported to the police within 24 hours.
For non-Quebec residents: Road assistance for up to 50$ is also covered in case of a covered peril.
On-road travel only
Can I get Grand Touring Advantage for my recreational vehicles as well?
Grand Touring Advantage is only available for private passenger vehicles. However, if you’ve rented a trailer, a tent trailer or a cabin trailer, you may receive up to $50,000 of protection for damages to the rented or borrowed vehicle.

Is Grand Touring Advantage available across Canada?
It is available everywhere except British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
However, the coverage varies somewhat for Quebec policy holders.
